Registration
    Information:
    • MEMBERSHIP:
      WIPO, TRIPS, Paris Convention and Madrid Agreement
    • CLASSIFICATION:
      10th edition — single class application
    • CLAIMING PRIORITY:
      Possible
    • SEARCH/TIME FRAME:
      Possible for word and device marks / 8 – 12 working days
    • EXAMINATION:
      On formal, absolute, and relative grounds
    • EXTENSION OF TIME:
      Not possible for filing oppositions, counter oppositions, and responding to office actions
    • VALIDITY:
      10 years as from the filing date
    • RENEWAL:
      For unlimited period of 10 years each

      6 months from the protection’s expiry date
    • USE:
      Vulnerable to cancellation by any interested party if there has been no effective use of the mark for a period of 5 consecutive years

    Time frame:

    2. Examination up to Publication: 1-2 months from the time of acceptance
    3. Opposition Period: 60 days from the publication date
    4. End of opposition period up to issuance of registration certificate: Within 2 months
    5. Total estimated time frame: 18-24 months
      The above time frame is for a normal/smooth processing of a trademark application, in case of no objections by the trademark examiner or no oppositions from a third party.
Renewal
    Filing Requirements:
    1. A Power of Attorney duly legalized up to the Egyptian Consulate.
Change of Name or Address
    Filing Requirements:
    1. A Power of Attorney duly legalized up to the Egyptian Consulate; and
    2. Certificate of change of name/address, legalized.
      • May be recorded for applications and registrations.
Assignment
    Filing Requirements:
    1. A Power of Attorney duly legalized up to the Egyptian Consulate;
    2. Deed of assignment, legalized; and
    3. Certificate of the incorporation of the assignee, legalized.
      • Trademarks may be assigned with or without the goodwill of the business concerned.
      • Separate POAs are required from assignee and assignor.
Merger
    Filing Requirements:
    1. A Power of Attorney duly legalized up to the Egyptian Consulate;
    2. Certificate of merger, legalized; and
    3. Certificate of incorporation, legalized.
License
    Filing Requirements:
    1. A Power of Attorney duly legalized up to the Egyptian Consulate;
    2. License agreement, legalized; and
    3. Certificate of incorporation, legalized.
      • Separate POAs are required from licensee and licensor.
      • License recordal is not compulsory but highly advisable in order to be effective against third parties.
PATENT
Information
    Information:
    • EQUIVALENT SEARCH:
      Patent applications and patents are searchable by title, patentee name, priority/PCT number, application number, subject matter.
    • EXAMINATION:
      As to form, novelty, inventiveness, industrial applicability, unity and compliance
    • PUBLICATION:
      Patents are published in the Official Gazette after allowance
    • OPPOSITION:
      Oppositions may be filed within 60 days from publication
    • ANNUITIES:
      Due annually on the anniversary of the international filing date and payable prior to grant.
      12 - month grace period for late payment with a surcharge
    • PROTECTION TERM:
      20 years from the international filing date
    Requirements:
    1. A Power of Attorney duly legalized up to the Egyptian Consulate;
    2. An Extract from the Commercial Register or Certificate of Incorporation, if the applicant is a company, duly legalized up to the Egyptian Consulate;
    3. An Assignment Deed duly legalized up to the Egyptian Consulate, if the applicant is not the inventor;
    4. Two copies of specifications, claims, abstract and drawings; and
    5. A certified copy of the corresponding home application duly legalized up to the Egyptian Consulate, in case of claiming priority.
Change of Name or Address
    Filing Requirements:
    1. A Power of Attorney duly legalized up to the Egyptian Consulate;
    2. Document evidencing the change of name/address, legalized; and
    3. If new name, then new POA, simply signed.
Assignment
    Filing Requirements:
    1. Power of Attorney in the name of the assignor, legalized;
    2. Power of Attorney in the name of the assignee, legalized;
    3. Certificate of Incorporation in the name of the assignee, legalized; and
    4. Deed of Assignment from the assignor to the assignee, legalized.
      • Documents must be accompanied with a sworn English translation if made in a foreign language.
      • Documents must be translated into Arabic upon submission.
Merger
    Filing Requirements:
    1. A Power of Attorney duly legalized up to the Egyptian Consulate;
    2. Power of Attorney in the name of the resulting company, legalized; and
    3. Certificate of Merger.
      • Documents must be accompanied with a sworn English translation if made in a foreign language.
      • Documents must be translated into Arabic upon submission.
License
    Filing Requirements:
    1. Power of Attorney from the licensee, legalized;
    2. License agreement, legalized; and
    3. Certificate of incorporation of the licensee.
DESIGN

    • EXAMINATION:
      As to form and novelty
    • APPLICATION WITH MULTIPLE FIGURES:
      Admissible for up to 30 figures
    Requirements:
    1. A Power of Attorney duly legalized up to the Egyptian Consulate;
    2. An Extract from the Commercial Register or Certificate of Incorporation, if the applicant is a company, duly legalized up to the Egyptian Consulate;
    3. An Assignment Deed duly legalized up to the Egyptian Consulate, if the applicant is not the designer;
    4. Four sets of formal drawings; and
    5. A certified copy of the priority document, if priority is claimed.
      • Copies of the representations, description of the design, and a brief separate illustration of the drawings must be submitted at the time of filing
      • Deed of assignment may be submitted within 3 months of filing date
      • Power of Attorney, certificate of incorporation, and priority document may be submitted within 6 months of filing date

    Requirements:
    1. A Power of Attorney duly legalized up to the Egyptian Consulate;
    2. A copy of the Artwork, stamped and mentioning the name of the signatory and title or a certificate of registration of the Artwork in any country;
    3. Particulars/details of the Author and Publisher; and
    4. Three copies of the work.
DOMAIN NAME
Requirements
    Requirements:
    1. A written request in the letterhead of the applicant requesting the registration of the domain name;
    2. A Power of Attorney duly legalized up to the Egyptian Consulate; and
    3. Copy of the Egyptian Trademark Registration Certificate of the same trademark required for the domain name.
