The use of a trademark is not compulsory for filing applications, maintaining trademark registration in force, or for renewal or maintenance of a trademark. Prior use constitutes the main criteria in determining proprietorship of a trademark, and is never considered as a pre-requisite for registration, or even a requirement to maintain that registration valid and enforced in the future. A trademark registration is cancelled only through a court action filed by a prior user, requesting such cancellation.
- Requirements:
- A Power of Attorney duly legalized up to Lebanese Consulate; and
- Twenty prints of the mark.
- The Power of Attorney must be filed together with the application.
- A general POA may be used for subsequent filings.
- Priority document may be submitted within 3 months from filing date.
- The Trademark Office will issue temporary filing date and filing number on the same date of submitting the application. The permanent filing number which is the registration number as well and the filing date will be allotted after acceptance of application.

- Filing up to Registration: 2-4 weeks
- Issuance of registration certificate: Within 3 weeks from the registration date The above time frame is for a normal/smooth processing of a trademark application, in case of no objections by the trademark examiner.
