1. Is design protected in Algeria?

YES.

2. Is it possible to file more than one design in a single application?

NO.

3. What is the term of protection of a design registration? Is there any grace period?

10 years as of the filing date of the application which is divided into two periods: first year and renewal for the other 9 years. A grace period of 6 months is allowed.

4. Is there any provision for the opposition?

NO. Infringement proceedings will be through the Court only.

5. Can a priority be claimed under Paris Convention?

YES.

6. What are the requirements to register a design?
  • A simply signed Power of Attorney;
  • 7 identical copies or representation of the design; and
  • A certified copy of the priority document, if priority is claimed.
7. Is late filing of the Power of Attorney allowed?

NO. POA must be submitted at the filing.

8. Is priority document required upon filing?

NO. Priority document may be submitted within 6 months of filing date.
